Hill Voice, 24 May 2026, Bandarban: Three Jumma villagers were killed in a landmine explosion planted by the Rohingya armed organization Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) in the area adjacent to Pillar No. 42 of Tumbru in Bhalukia Para, Ghumdhum Union, Naikhyongchari Upazila under Bandarban district at around 11 am today, Sunday (24 May).
The deceased are: 1) Chingkhong Chakma (44), father: Aimong Chakma, mother: Rangma Bong; 2) Chopoching Chakma (47), father: Shuniong Chakma, mother: Pelbi Chakma; 3) Aunkyamong Tangchangya (45), father: late Nemong Tangchangya, mother: late Bashaching Tangchangya. All of them lived in Bhalukia Para village, Reju Mouza No. 268, Naikhyongchari Upazila, Bandarban district.
According to sources, they went to work there this morning as they had not visited their banana plantation in Jum for a long time. When they reached the place at this time, Aunkyamong Tanchangya was the first victim of a mine explosion. Later, when the other two went to rescue him, they also fell victim to a mine explosion and all three were killed on the spot.
Locals alleged that members of the Rohingya militant Armed Terrorist Group (ARSA) regularly move around the border area with heavy weapons under the nose of the administration. However, they expressed anger that no visible effective action has been taken by the administration yet.
It is worth noting that for the past two years, the Jummas of Ghumdhum Union in Naikhyongchari Upazila have been subjected to various heinous incidents such as harassment, kidnapping, beating, indiscriminate killing, rape and attempted rape of Jumma women by Rohingya militants and armed terrorists.
According to various reports by Hill Voice, three Tanchangya villagers were allegedly beaten up by Rohingya terrorists in Ghumdhum Union No. 3 of Naikhyangchari Upazila under Bandarban district on January 22, 2026 and January 24, 2026. One of the victims is said to be a mentally unsound youth and the other two are a woman and a man.
On 8 October 2025, RSO and ARSA militants abducted a jute farmer named Suman Tanchangya from Gorjan Bonia, adjacent to Ward No. 8 of Ghumdhum Union in Naikhyongchari Upazila, and on 23 September 2025, another villager named Wamong Tanchangya from Bhalukia of Ghumdhum Union. Their whereabouts have not been found yet.
On 16 May 2024, two villagers, Chaila Mong Chakma (29) and Kyamongkho Tanchangya (25), were abducted by Rohingya militants from the sluice gate area of Hoi Kyang Naf River in Teknaf Upazila of Cox’s Bazar district while collecting crabs. They have not been traced yet.
Earlier, on 1 March 2022, at approximately 12:00 noon, a villager named Sujan Tanchangya went to look for cows in the central area of his village. At one point while looking for cows, Sujan Tanchangya was hit by a sudden explosion of a mine planted by ARSA and was seriously injured.
