A Marma teenager allegedly gang-raped in Ruma, the accused arrested

Hill Voice, September 14, 2026, Bandarban: It has been reported that a Marma girl (15) from Tongmak Para village of No.1 Paindu Union of Ruma Upazila under Bandarban district has been allegedly gang-raped by four Marma youths.

It is reported that the gang rape incident took place about 4/5 months ago, but it was only revealed to the public the day before yesterday (September 12).

After learning about the incident, the victim’s father went to Ruma Police Station the day before yesterday (September 12) and filed a case in this regard. It was then learnt that the police arrested the four accused youths yesterday.

The names of the four accused and arrested youths are- 1. Kyaw Sing Nu Marma, son of Kyawhlaching Marma, 2. U Hai Mong Marma, 3. Sing Hla Marma, 3. U Shai Nu Marma. They are all said to be residents of the same village.

According to the victim’s sources, about 4/5 months ago, the four young men, finding the girl in a secluded place in the village, raped her. First, Kyaw Sing Nu Marma forcibly took the girl to under a tree and raped her. Then, U Hai Mong Marma and Sing Hla Marma raped her one after another. Finally, U Shai Nu Marma raped her. It is said that U Shai Nu Marma is the father of a child.

It is said that after the incident, the teenage victim was unable to tell anyone about the incident due to threats from the rapists, fear, and shame.

However, about 4 months after the incident, it is known that U Hai Mong Marma gave the victim a blister pack of tablets to eat. After consuming the tablets, the girl’s physical condition worsened. At one stage, upon learning of the girl’s physical condition, her parents first took her to Ruma Health Complex and later to Bandarban District Sadar Hospital.

The gang rape incident was revealed to the girl’s family on September 8 after the girl’s pregnancy and miscarriage were revealed at the hospital. After learning more about the incident, the girl’s father filed a case with Ruma Police Station.

When asked about this, several elders in the area confirmed that the incident was true.
