Attempt to grab land of a Jumma by Bengali settlers in Barkal

Hill Voice, 28 July 2026, Rangamati: It has been alleged that an attempt was made to encroach on the recorded land of a Jumma villager by a group of Bengali settlers in Barkal Sadar Union area of ​​Barkal upazila of Rangamati district.

The incident occurred yesterday (July 27) at approximately 9:30 pm in Bilachara village, Ward No. 7 of Barkal Sadar Union.

The owner of the land is Tridip Chakma. He is said to be a former member of the Bangladesh Police. It is said that the said land was settled in the name of Tridip Chakma in 1976.

It is learnt that at around 9:30 pm yesterday, a group of Bengali settlers from Barunachari settler area of ​​Subalong area demolished a farmhouse on Tridip Chakma’s land and tried to build a house there. The Bengali settlers even claimed the land as theirs by showing fake documents.

On 28 July, Barkal police, with the help of the local Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), verified the original land documents, resolved the dispute, and ordered the Bengali settlers not to build the house under construction.
