Call for Jumma Students to Join Broader Movement to Implement CHT Accord: 8th Conference of PCP’s Lama Branch

Hill Voice, 23 August 2026, Bandarban: The 8th Conference and Council-2026 of the Pahari Chatra Parishad (PCP), Lama Branch, Bandarban, was held in Lama. At the conference, an appeal was made to the Jumma student community to actively join the movement to intensify the implementation of the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Accord.

Presided over by Mongkya Marma, the event was attended by Swapan Assam, General Secretary of the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (PCJSS) Lama Branch, as the chief guest. Special guests included PCP Central General Secretary Antar Chakma and Bandarban District Branch Vice-President Sahlau Kheyang.

Speakers at the conference stated that the Jumma people in the CHT are still living amid uncertainty and oppression. Despite the signing of the Accord, the government, instead of taking effective steps to implement it, is engaged in conspiracies. Furthermore, under the guise of development, hundreds of acres of land are being grabbed in Lama, attempts at Islamization are being made, and a culture of impunity is being sustained. To achieve freedom from such injustice and a life of servitude, speakers urged the student and youth communities to throw themselves into the movement for rights under the leadership of PCJSS.

In the second session of the conference, a new 17-member committee for the PCP Lama Branch was unanimously formed, with Mongkya Marma as President, Mongenu Marma as General Secretary, and Mongkhyasing Marma as Organizing Secretary. The newly elected committee was sworn in by PCP Central Assistant Organizing Secretary Ushaihla Marma.
