Hill Voice, 28 July 2026, Rangamati: On 28 July, it has been alleged that a Buddhist monk named Satyamati Bhante was subjected to harassment by BGB members of the Kojoichhari BGB camp in Baghaichari, Rangamati district.
The victim of the harassment, Satyamati Bhikkhu, is said to be the abbot of the Ajalchug Buddhist Monastery in Baghaichari.
According to local sources, at around 7.00 am on that day, Satyamati Bhante along with his 5 monks were going for a religious programme at the invitation of Binoy Chakma, a local resident of 8 Kilo of the Majhipara border road. But on the way, when they reached in front of the Kojoichari BGB camp of Baghaichari Union No. 32, a BGB and a Ansar members on duty at the check post stopped Bhante’s car and asked him various harassing questions. Even though Bhante answered everything properly, they did not allow them to move to their destination from there.
At one point, after they were made to stand on the road for about one and a half to two hours, Satyamati Bhante said that he wanted to talk to their superiors. The BGB and Ansar members also expressed their inability to do so. Later, at Bhante’s insistence, a BGB officer (may be a subedar) from the Kojoichari BGB camp arrived at the scene and Bhante explained the details to him.
It is said that after talking to the BGB officer for a while, the BGB officer allowed the Bhantes to leave.
Local people expressed anger over the harassment of the Bhantes by BGB members.
It is learnt that on the way back from Binoy Chakma’s house in the afternoon, the BGB apologized to the monks for the morning’s mistake.
